There are some of us who wish to hoodwink a majority, so that we vote ourselves out of our own American birth rights...

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Guest Editorial

Let me first indicate my political bent. I am a bit to the right of center on national defense. I believe in God, but don't try to force my values on others, as the Constitution states there is separation between Church and State. I look out for my family first, but I don't say-"the hell with everyone else." I don't like paying taxes, but realize that it is necessary for the common good. I'd like my family to enjoy life, realize their full potential, be active and productive, be flexible, adapt to stress and not scapegoat others, have the opportunity for affordable higher education, avoid unplanned pregnancy, contribute to the community, and be good Americans and support all American citizens. I'm sure I've left something out, but you probably can tell where I'm coming from.

I think I have something to say about the state of our nation, as we all should. Unfortunately, there are those of us who would like to herd us into becoming followers by using the media to get out propagandato the public and keep repeating it loud enough and long enough until the public believes it to be fact. What I'm trying to say is-use your common sense and critical thinking ability to question the motives of those who are hired to influence us all and not to accept the premise of their arguments just because they have a microphone or printing press. For example: Today, and in recent times, political parties have grown so far apart on issues that it seems there are few middle of the road Democrats and Republicans.Rather, there are Conservatives and Liberals who refuse to compromise on issues that concern all of us.

Whatever happened to the "common good"? Just a few short years ago a housing crisis threatened the international monetary system. Almost every economist supported the action taken by our government to prop up the financial system. The cost-trillions of dollars of taxpayer money. This action pushed our national debt from intolerable to endangering the future of all Americans. Media personalities have somehow misdirected the blame for our plight from greedy and fraudulent banking practices of "the best and brightest", who made millions and millions in fees to the shoulders of civil servants and retirees!!! If the housing crisis, perpetrated by the greedy, who knew they were OKing mortgage loans to those who could not repay, we would still have a debt to be confronted, but not such a colossal one.

These same Media propagandists claim that Presidents Clinton and Bush and Obama are at fault for suggesting that the dream of homeownership somehow forced bankers to make loans. As of yet, I have not learned of any executive directive, or congressional law that forced bankers to approve loans to those who could not qualify. This is what I mean, when I say read between the lines and follow the money. Try to discern who will benefit when you are being herded to vote a certain way. Who can afford to own a radio station franchise. There are some of us who wish to hoodwink a majority, so that we vote ourselves out of our own American birth rights..., while they purchase a larger fleet of private jets for themselves. I'm no socialist or communist, but I do care about others besides myself. We all need to stay vigilant.

These people are mostly black, hispanic and other minorities so I guess they don't matter to the Right GOP and White Tea Party.

“Republicans are against abortion until their daughters need one, Democrats are for abortion until their daughter wants one”
~Grace McGarvie

A government shutdown is threatened because the Tea Party members of the GOP in congress don't want the poor to have access to Planned Parenthood Centers. These are the people that want smaller government and want government out of their business but they want government in a woman's business. They want government in her vagina, in case she needs or wants an abortion. Of course when the poor have children they are on their own because the GOP will have cut any supportive services. God forbid the poor sought an abortion for whatever reason. What most of the people that go to Planned Parenthood Centers want is health care, and preventative care, check ups and general health care service. These people are generally the poor and the needy. To cut funding to these services is criminal. Just more victimization of the poorest and the most vulnerable members of society. These people are mostly black, hispanic and other minorities so I guess they don't matter to the Right GOP and White Tea Party. Remember the GOP just gave the richest Americans $70 billion in tax cuts So I guess the poor have to fund it.

If the government shuts down thousands of American military personnel will not get paid. The government is now making noises that they will pay military in the war zones, what about all the military currently stationed state side, don't they eat, don't they have families, mortgages and car payments. Two serving military have told me they have been informed to expect to stop receiving their checks. What the fuck do these morons in the congress think they are doing messing with people's lives. They are violating every oath they took. They should be arrested and put in jail. At the least they should be denied a salary so long as one American suffers because of their criminality.

the Republicans insisted on $70 billion in 2011 in tax cuts for the rich. I’m pretty sure that $70 billion is more than $60 billion, any way you look

Every time I read an op-ed in the New York Times that was written by a “senior scholar” from the Hoover Institute or a “fellow” from the Cato Institute, I want to scream, please replace that with “paid whore funded by psychotic right-wing billionaire.” Which is significantly more accurate.
By Larry Beinhart

A letter from Alan Grayson to the American people.

Unless you’ve been living in a cave recently – Osama, you can stop reading here – you know that the Republicans have blocked the passage of the appropriations bills that apply to all federal spending between April 8 and September 30, so we are facing a government shutdown.

And as the White House has patiently pointed out, that means no more government-backed mortgages, which now account for 95% of the housing market.

No more government student loans. No more government small-business loans.

No pay for the troops, who are now embroiled in three wars. They still have to fight. They just won’t be paid for it. Despite the Thirteenth Amendment.

No tax refunds, just one week before taxes are due.

No federal grants for roads, schools, or pretty much anything else.

No new medical research at the National Institutes of Health.

And hundreds of thousands of federal employees added to the unemployment rolls.

But there is one thing that you can still do, if the government shuts down.

You can go broke.

I’m a licensed attorney, and yesterday I received this cheerful reminder from a bankruptcy court to which I’m admitted:

“The Court will continue to operate, business as usual, on Monday, April 11, 2011.”

The staff, the bankruptcy court explained, will be paid out of “fee revenue and other sources.” Anyone who wants to petition for bankruptcy will be welcome to do so.

So there it is. When the Republicans shut down the government, health and safety, housing and even transportation are all at risk. But the one thing that you can be sure you can still do is . . . go broke.

For the bankruptcy courts, it’s “business as usual.” And the bankruptcy business is booming.

But leaving that one exception to the government shutdown aside, it’s now official. The Party of No is now the Party of No Government. The Party of Anarchy. The Party of Chaos.

And remember this: The White House and the Democratic Leadership have agreed (rightly or wrongly) to what the Republicans originally demanded for the 2011 budget -- $30 billion in social spending cuts. Yet now the Republicans are demanding twice as much: $60 billion in 2011 social spending cuts.

But just three months ago, the Republicans insisted on $70 billion in 2011 in tax cuts for the rich. I’m pretty sure that $70 billion is more than $60 billion, any way you look at it. So except for those tax cuts for the rich, we wouldn’t be having this argument.

Please make a note on your calendar. November 6, 2012. Election Day. That’s when it will be our turn to punish them, the way that they’ve tried to punish all of us.

Courage,

Alan Grayson
