Now back to U. S. and the daily diatribe that flows out of every media outlet

“Politics is the art of looking for trouble, finding it, misdiagnosing it, and then misapplying the wrong remedies.”
~Groucho Marx

Croatia is an amazingly beautiful country. I'm sure there are parts that may not live up to what I saw but the Brac Island near the city of Split is worth the trip. The people are hospitable and that little island has a lot to offer. Wineries and olive groves dot the island. The island's wine and olive oil is superb. It was a week away from the constant news stream and the incessant political madness that America is now heir to. It was a wonderful week of training with karate athletes from the Republic of Macedonia and Croatia. Definitely a chance to decompress.

I have been to many places in the former Yugoslavia and all of them have been interesting and many of the cities reflected the Communist era. Often blocks of drab buildings built with a monotonous sameness, which also included monstrosities called government buildings, many often in need of repair. Not so in Split or Brac Island. Split has an old world charm and I'm told it is very much like Florence Italy, not having been to Florence I have to take their word on it. I had a chance to tour Diocletian's palace. It is huge and actually a city in itself. It is full of shops, bars, restaurants and boutiques. Definitely a surrealistic place, a thousand year old palace of a Roman Emperor with a town inside.

Now back to U. S. and the daily diatribe that flows out of every media outlet about president Obama, the economy, Tea Party, make believe Fox News, Democrats, the Gay Old Party the GOP, and the rest of the panoply of talking heads and pundits that makes up the American circus called politics. I guess I missed it a little as it spices up the day and as with most Americans we all have opinions and I get a chance to write about mine. So it is back to the "Big Bagel" and my karate, Aikido, Iaido training and more blogging. Good to be home.

Now what the hell is that asshole in Florida doing saying he is going to burn Koans? This stuff never stops.

This part of the world is not that concerned with American politics, it is more or less a side show, that is sometimes a farcical comedy

The gull sees farthest who flies highest.
~Richard Bach, Jonathan Livingston Seagall

Being far from home is a chance to see things from a different perspective. This part of the world is not that concerned with American politics, it is more or less a side show, that is sometimes a farcical comedy. Looking at my PC I see that the Tea Party loonies are still at it and that there are a number of ingenuous politicians who are pandering to them. I saw a brief video of these schlock politicians pandering and saying things that any intelligent person with any degree of intelligence and ability to think for themselves would find laughable. These people are an embarrassment, and their views don't travel well. To see candidates for governor arguing over who is more for the Tea Party and claiming a belief in intelligent design and questioning and denying scientific fact, plus any number of wacky positions is a is an insult to ones intelligence.
It appears that politicians instead of rising the conversation to a higher moral and intellectual level have dumbed down their brains and message and sunk to new lows by serving those that in another time would have been assigned to the category of, not too bright but potentially dangerous, and not worth giving the time of day too. This maybe the time that the loonies and wackos will win the day, they say every dog has it's day, but if they do we will go the way of the Do Do Bird.

Something to think about.

A week of a working vacation and a chance to view the U.S.A. from a different perspective

If you do not raise your eyes you will think that you are the highest point.
~Antonio Porchia, Voces, 1943

It is a week of a working vacation and a chance to view the U.S.A. from a different perspective. So no posts this week, well maybe no posts. It is a week of intense karate training with a serious group of high ranking black belts and a core of beginner enthusiasts in one of the worlds most beautiful places. Morning is intense with all black belts. Usually an hour and a half of non stop drills. Evening is more of an integrated group and the training is basic but non the less intense. It is a spectacular drive of fifty minutes to another town on the island for evening training but well worth it. But more on another post of where.
