Most police serve their community and do a fine job. But occasionally there are police who take upon themselves to go beyond upholding the law. At the recent Jets vs San Diego Charger football playoff game an over zealous Jets fan, William Carroll of New York, was arrested for cheering for his team. The attached video shows the fan cheering and then being arrested by the police while the fans, many of them San Diego fans, insisted that he didn't do anything wrong. He was charged with being drunk and disorderly but was refused a breathalyzer test. The police say he refused to leave after being asked three times. Carroll said he was asked once to leave but refused because he did nothing wrong. It seems that an off duty cop nearby texted the police that Carroll was drunk and disorderly, presumedly he didn't like the Jets fan cheering the Jets.
It is an injustice and they need to be called out on it. Injustice weather it be towards, gays, women, minorities or based on religion is wrong and when it is committed by the police is an even greater wrong. It was a sporting event, people cheer, people yell and that is what is expected but to arrest him for overzealousness is the hight of hypocrisy and a stain on the character of the San Diego police and community. The man may have a law suit against the San Diego police for false arrest and imprisonment. Fortunately a video exists of the abuse by the police of their powers. This is definitely not a stellar moment for the San Diego Police Department.
