I guess when you watch Fox News every day the brain washing takes effect

The Matrix is a system, Neo. That system is our enemy. But when you're inside, you look around, what do you see? Businessmen, teachers, lawyers, carpenters. The very minds of the people we are trying to save. But until we do, these people are still a part of that system and that makes them our enemy. You have to understand, most of these people are not ready to be unplugged. And many of them are so inured, so hopelessly dependent on the system, that they will fight to protect it.
~Morpheus, The Matrix

Sometimes people surprise you in ways you would never suspect, especially if that person is a close relative. A close relative told me to stop informing him about my blog as he is too busy and any way he is a staunch Republican. Whoopee, staunch idiot is what I thought. But I guess when you watch Fox News every day the brain washing takes effect. Independent rational analytical thinking no longer works and one becomes a fire breathing Republican Conservative. “I'll vote against my own self interest because I believe bullshit, lies, and twisted logic.” It should not be a surprise as I have heard illogical opinions from this relative before. The hypocrisy of it is that when one benefits from the social programs that Democrats fought thirty years to implement over the objections of the Republicans such as Social Security and Medicare one would think that he might have a reason to consider the Democratic position. When we have a Republican president that allowed the banking industry to gamble with investors money causing the biggest financial collapse since the Great Depression and a Democratic president prevented us from going into a full blown Depression one would think that maybe he would examine that. When a Republican president starts an illegal war on a sovereign country and thousands of Americans die, billions of dollars disappears down a black hole known as Halliburton he might ask questions. When the United States endorses the use of torture on prisoners under the euphemism of enhanced interrogation one might think he would question the morality of that. He ignores the facts that Republicans support tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans and oppose tax breaks and tax incentives for small businesses and oppose bank regulatory reform. Leave health care alone as the price of health insurance continues to rise to the point that many small businesses can't afford it, why because he's a staunch Republican.

I can pick my friends but I can't pick my relatives. Maybe one day he will see the light but I doubt it. If the Republicans win the next election and eliminate Social Security and Medicare because it is socialism, something they tried to do under the Bush administration, he may scream uncle. With the new ruling by the Supreme Court allowing unlimited financing of political campaigns by corporations who knows what will happen. The health industry may just tell their wholly owned congress to do just that. The health industry does just about anything it wants to do anyway. Woodland Hills (Los Angles County) based “Anthem Blue Cross customers got a shock this week when the health insurer informed thousands of individual policyholders that their premium rates will jump as much as 39 percent on March 1st'. My relative like many others wants the government out of his business. The government will be out of his business and in bed with big business. Social programs for the rest of us will cease to exist. He will end up screaming for the government to help him but by then it may be too late. I am reminded of the movie The Matrix when Morpheus shows Neo a battery and tells him that is what humans are to the Matrix. That is what big business sees us as batteries. It is time my relative woke up but I am afraid he likes being a battery.

I don't think he will read the blog so I am not worried about upsetting him. What is interesting is that my Conservative friends encourage me to send them notices about my blog. I guess they want to see where I am going with my ideas and opinions. Like I said you can't pick your relatives but you can pick your friends and many of my friends are conservatives, something I don't hold against them. I consider them future progressives that have yet to see the light.
