'We have ours so screw the rest of you'.

"All the problems we face in the United States today can be traced to an unenlightened immigration policy on the part of the American Indian." -Pat Paulsen, Comedian and Satirist

Illegal immigration; nothing causes so much passion among conservatives than, those people (Mexicans), coming here illegally for the benefits they can suck out our society. They don't speak English, which conservatives consider very un-American. They are here to get the bennies that America can bestow on them. Free school for their kids, free health care at hospital emergency rooms, jobs and the good life , the la buena vida. Also there are the criminal latino gangs, and the inmate population in our jails that we have to feed and support. All these are issues that concern conservatives and oh yes they vote in our elections. I'm sure that millions of illegal aliens from Mexico are rushing to their polling place to vote early and often on election day. I'm sure nobody would notice. Plus they are law breakers and didn't come into America the way we did or our forbearers did, legally. So they are law breakers from the get go. And lastly they are taking jobs away from deserving Americans who are unemployed, like Joe the plumber. I guess there is no disagreeing with the conservatives when it comes to illegal aliens. They, the conservatives, have it all figures out.

If you assume that all illegal immigrants are from Mexico, the twelve million illegal aliens would constitute only about four percent of the American population. Not an overwhelming number. A vocal concern by the Right is that they commit crimes and are involved in gang activities. While Latino gangs are a problem, they are criminals and should be treated as such. The vast majority of Mexican and Latino illegals in the United States are here for work and many are illegally exploited by American employers who need workers to produce what American workers refuse to do. Many are exploited for their labor and work for low pay and are often mistreated. It is true that their children go to our schools, yet the vast majority of illegals are here without their children and families, they work and send money home. Those that are able to get their families into the country often work long hours and are also trying to live the promise of America and build a life for their children all the while living in fear of being discovered and deported.

One of the major issues for Conservatives is legality, these Latinos are law breakers. They are here illegally, they have violated the law. When it comes to the law, the Right suddenly becomes self righteous. Not that they don't bend a few laws themselves. The early settlers of America were illegal aliens, they had no visas and took what they wanted and abused the native Americans who were here first. If we consider most illegal immigrants are Mexicans, as most people do, then they are the descendants of those native Americans who owned all of North America including Mexico and the whole south west. They can claim a prior claim to live anywhere in North America. We have seen this precedent already around the world.

As for the fact that they don't speak English, we do not have national language. In most of the western world, except for England, the people of most countries speak more than one language. In fact it is seen as a sign of an educated person and sophistication to be able to speak more that one language.

There is a mean spiritedness from the Right on this issue. 'We have ours so screw the rest of you'. These people give up all they know and love and come to a hostile country where they face discrimination and financial hardship to have a better life. While illegal immigration is a problem there is a need for low paid workers and there always has been. The illegal immigrants do fill a niche. We can always build the wall higher, but there must be a better way. As for the need for workers we can create a special worker entry permit for Mexican workers after a background check. As for the twelve million illegals that are here already, to round them up and send them back would cost a fortune and be seen as a cruel fate for many illegals who have children that were born here and are American citizens. Instead we could create a more humane process whereby these people can become legal residence after a period of time and proof of employment, with the prospect of citizenship in the future.

the GOP, the Gay Old Party

"House Republican Leader John Boehner objected to House passage of a bill that would expand hate crime laws and make it a federal crime to assault people on the basis of their sexual orientation." -Unknown

Gay is not catching, gay is not contagious. But according to the new book by Dr. James Dobson, a powerful and politically influential voice in the evangelical movement and far Right, Marriage Under Fire, gay marriage is responsible for the decline of western civilization.
"The culture war will be over, and I fear, the world may soon become "as it was in the days of Noah" (Matthew 24:37, NIV). This is the climactic moment in the battle to preserve the family, and future generations hang in the balance." According to Dobson it is the gay lifestyle that will destroy America, the family and the evangelical Christian movement. "Perhaps most important, the spread of the Gospel of Jesus Christ will be severely curtailed. The family has been God's primary vehicle for evangelism since the beginning. " It is a lot to attribute to the gay community but Dobson asserts that they are the vehicle for destruction of democracy. Non- the-less gay marriage remains a civil rights issue. Although there are many who will dispute this, the fact is they, the gay community are being discriminated against and deserve the same protection that their detractors claim for themselves.
When one considers how many male Republicans in and out of congress have had illicit affairs with other men, boys and male prostitutes we should be be referring to the GOP as the Gay Old Party. The vehemence from the Right against gays and gay marriage make one think that many of the more vociferous opponents of gay marriage and gay rights are coming from those in the GOP, the Gay Old Party, who are still in the closet or just sneaking around airport bathrooms trying to have sex with male strangers are afraid to admit the truth, they are gay.
Not only the GOP but the evangelical movement, which supports the Gay Old Party, has had it's share of shame about their homosexual activities, especially in light of their steadfast opposition to gays and gay marriage. Such as "Rev. Ted Haggard, then the president of the National Association of Evangelicals and the pastor of a Colorado Springs megachurch, after a male prostitute said Mr. Haggard had had a relationship with him for three years.
Though he did not publicly admit to the relationship, in a letter to his congregation, Mr. Haggard said that he was “guilty of sexual immorality” and that he had struggled all his life with impulses he called “repulsive and dark.”
Haggard has to get over it and admit he's gay. It takes great courage to do that, and while not popular in evangelical churches gays will not disappear. The rights for gay people will continue to be a hard fought battle that will eventually be won while it may have to go to the supreme court, even that will be a battle with five Catholics sitting on the bench.
Most enlightened countries in the western world have a more tolerant policy toward gay marriage. America is still looking backward on this issue. It is time that Americans open their hearts and know that these gay Americans are people who have dreams and hopes and sorrows that all Americans share and their choice of partner is no ones business but their own. It may be that America has an intellectual void and that unless America can raise its intellectual IQ and correct it's moral compass, discrimination, bigotry, intolerance and racism will continue to be American characteristics.

"Climate change is tracking toward levels which transcend the planetary boundaries which allowed the development of humans over the last 3 million years [1]. These limits have already been crossed in terms of the rise in greenhouse gases (CO2, methane, Nitric oxide) and extensive loss of species [1]. Given lag effects, looming threats include (A) ocean acidification and phosphorous flux, collapse of coral reefs and the marine food chain; (B) availability of freshwater; (C) conversion of natural forests to cropland, i.e. the Amazon; (D) ozone depletion; (E) atmospheric aerosol loading and (F) chemical pollution by metals, plastics, radioactive nuclei etc."

Thank you, John for showing me how to do this. Okay--you say gay is not catching--but neither is it inherent. There is no "gay gene" despite all the misconceptions generated by those who want to convince us otherwise (Hamer, LeVay, who happens to be gay, et al.).
So if it is not inherent, it is then behavioral, which means that one can be influenced to act out on homosexual urges.
Surely you remember that there is an early stage when one may develop "crushes" on those of the same sex. This happens typically in the early teens. So believing that it is inborn, this individual would believe that this must mean he in fact is gay.
And the stronger the homosexual presence in America becomes (aided by well-meaning people such as yourself and the media, many of whose members are homosexual/bisexual) the more it adds to this person's confusion.
The young person may have a problem with masculinity/feminity, difficulty making friends, etc. and now believes all these problems will be solved with his newfound "community."
So I object to having gay marriage institutionalized b/c it is a bad influence over our youth. I am not even going to get into the fact that gay couples are adopting more and more defenseless children.
This is a very unwholesome way of life as shown by the early age at which practicing homosexuals die. They get many more diseases than heterosexuals. Spiritually, it is very bad because most of them are unable to form attachments and are extremely promiscuous and are sex-addicted.
This is something we do not want to encourage in our society if it is to protect its youth as well as everyone else. The family is the building block of society. The stronger it is the less govt. has a role in butting into our lives.
Furthermore, consider this: the more animals get legal "rights" the more your rights as a human being are weakened. So, yes, this does take away from the uniqueness that married couples get in our society.
If someone wants to act on homosexual urges, that is one thing. But that should not be granted protected status (as is now the case).
And don't look for a politician to say any of this.

A Democrat with "testículos de acero", Rep Alan Grayson has upset the apple cart.

"[T]hey confuse their customers and dump the sick, all so they can satisfy their Wall Street investors," -former Cigna senior executive Wendell Potter said during a hearing on health insurance

The health insurance debate continues to drag in congress. The Baucus bill is a sham and sellout to the health insurance industry and unless it includes a public option is not worth the paper it's printed on. No one has stated more clearly why we need health reform than Rep. Alan Grayson (D) Florida, (see video). The Republicans up to now to have had the democrats nuts in a vice and now steps forth a Democrat seemingly with the courage to challenge them and call them on the issues. A Democrat with "testículos de acero", Rep Alan Grayson has upset the apple cart.
Now maybe other Democrats will begin to speak out and say what the people have known all along, that we are tired of politics as usual and tired of the congress kissing up to health insurance lobbyist for the almighty dollar. It's time the Democrats act like Democrats and do what they were put into office to do. Give America a health care bill with a public option that will create competition for the Health Insurance industry, which will lower health insurance costs and provide a opportunity for all Americans to buy health care that will cover them when the need it the most, when they are sick. The only reason that some Democrats and all Republicans oppose the public option is that they are feeding at the troth of the health insurance industry, they have been bought. It is time to end the lies and hypocrisy.

The Health Insurance industry promises to raise prices if Baucus Bill passes.

we have a new form of government in America, we have a corporate oligarchy. The big corporate interests control the senate, therefore control the law

"Treason is a strong word, but not too strong, rather too weak, to characterize the situation in which the senate is the eager, resourceful, indefatigable, agent of interests hostile to the American people as any invading army could be..."
-David Graham Philips

What is the price of Democracy? To Senator Baucus and the rest of the senate, how much to sell your interest, your seat, your constituents, your soul to the interests hostile to the American people? Specifically, in this case the health care insurance industry.
This is not a new phenomena in America. Politicians have always been wooed by business interests, and it takes a strong politician to resist them. A previous quote on my blog stated it perfectly, “If you can't drink a lobbyist's whiskey, take his money, sleep with his women and still vote against him in the morning, you don't belong in politics”, there are a whole lot of politicians who do not belong in politics, Max Baucus (D-Mt) being one. In the attached video Bill Moyer points out that Baucus' staff health advisor is a former vice president of public affairs for Wellpont a major health insurance company. His former health advisor Michelle Easton, now works for Wellpoint. A conflict of interest? It is a blatant disgusting betrayal of the public trust, especially in light of what he's done. His Finance Committees Health Care Bill does not have a public option that would provide for competition for health care dollars. A public option would help lower costs and lower the price of private health care; and make health care coverage competitive and within the reach of all Americans. The Baucus bill would require everyone to buy health care from the private sector thereby enriching the very health care insurance companies that victimize the sick and the poor in America. This is selling out. THis is just what the health insurance industry want. If this passes you can bet that Baucus' next campaign will be heavily funded by health care dollars, he is insuring his future in the senate by this bill.
The members of the senate finance committee have received over the past few years forty nine point seven million dollars in health care dollars and Baucus has received one point nine million from the health insurance industry. The health insurance industry over the last few years has spent three hundred and eighty million dollars on advertising, lobbying, and campaign contributions to members of congress to represent their interests. They have sold our democracy up the river. When members of congress scream that they are defending democracy from socialism, it ain't so. They have sold our American Democracy to the corporations and now we have a new form of government in America, we have a corporate oligarchy. The big corporate interests control the senate, therefore control the law they, the corporate interests with their fat bank rolls, are the true government. People like Baucus work for them not us, they do their masters bidding. The American people must to become aware of the betrayal of their interests and do something about it, or they will become the victims and pawns of the corruption of the state.
