What we have today in America is CORPORATE FASCISM.

"The ideal set up by the Party was something huge, terrible, and glittering—a world of steel and concrete, of monstrous machines and terrifying weapons—a nation of warriors and fanatics, marching forward in perfect unity, all thinking the same thoughts and shouting the same slogans, perpetually working, fighting, triumphing, persecuting—three hundred million people all with the same face."
George Orwell 1984

"Fascism, comprises a radical and authoritarian nationalist political ideology and a corporatist economic ideology." What we have today in America is corporate fascism.
Since 1990 the following have been the contributions to congress to influence their decisions for the corporate entity. Republicans have received this money at a rate of two to one to Democrats. One wonders why Republicans are so supportive of industry and no regulations, laissez-faire business practices. The corporations want no regulations and the freedom to maximize profits regardless of the social, environmental or moral impact.

Insurance companies have contributed to congress $320,802,051
The oil and gas companies have contributed $241,990,382
Pharmaceuticals / Health Products: Long-Term Contribution $174,233,253
Health Professionals: Long-Term Contribution Trends $469,130,499
Commercial Banks: Long-Term Contribution Trends $217,261,406
We are talking millions here. Who does congress really serve?

How the hell can the individual compete with corporate greed and corruption of our elected officials. What the people want is of little true importance to our elected officials. Congress is bought and paid for by the special interest corporate lobby. The corporations have the best media P.R. machine in the history of the world and they know how to use it. Half of America is brain washed by the corporate media machine supported by the Right Wing Media that is on board with their program of a corporate fascist society. They know how to frame an issue and re package it so that the American public will act directly against their own self interest and in the interest of the corporate entity that is acting in its own self interest and diametrically against the interest of the American people. The Republican Christian Conservatives play right into their hands with their fear of government and liberal ideology and Right Wing Media like Fox White Man News twists the truth and buys into the lies and propaganda of corporate power. It is time for America to wake up and throw the bastards out.
We need a revolution of conscience. No more automatic pensions for one term senators and congressmen, we need term limits for all the congress. We need laws to stop lobbyists and corporate contributions. No lobbyist within a thousand miles of congress. The massive corporations of the Oil and Coal, Health Care are out to get what they want at any cost. They will destroy America for profit and use the gullible and naive and those poor twisted souls who believe the bullshit of the Right to achieve their ends and in the end those poor bastards will be destroyed.

Profit at the cost of the planet we inhabit

"The danger is that global warming may become self-sustaining, if it has not done so already. The melting of the Arctic and Antarctic ice caps reduces the fraction of solar energy reflected back into space, and so increases the temperature further. Climate change may kill off the Amazon and other rain forests, and so eliminate once one of the main ways in which carbon dioxide is removed from the atmosphere. The rise in sea temperature may trigger the release of large quantities of carbon dioxide, trapped as hydrides on the ocean floor. Both these phenomena would increase the greenhouse effect, and so global warming further. We have to reverse global warming urgently, if we still can. "

Stephen Hawking

It's the climate stupid. I've been told that global warming isn't happening. That this is just a phase. That some of the planets are warming up also. It goes on and on. But the truth is our planet is warming and the tipping point may have been past. We know that the oceans are warmer.
The oceans have begun to rise and exotic diseases are now in places that they have never existed. The greatest danger of man made warming will eventually be the release of methane from methane hydrates on the sea floor as the oceans warm and reach a critical threshold. Methane is ten times as dangerous as carbon dioxide. Methane is also being released from the permafrost in Siberia and arctic Tundra. The effect will be a rapid rise in temperature.
The nay sayers says it ain't so. Either they are ignorant of the facts or they are believing the self-serving statements of the oil and coal industry who's only concern is for profit. Profit at the cost of the planet we inhabit. This little biosphere we live on can sustain only so much abuse and then there will be a disaster for man. The planet will go on but it can go on without us.

..."what most climate scientists and activists know but don’t often say: given the 30-odd-year climate-cycle time lags, the now obviously activated positive feedbacks of decreasing albedo from the melting Arctic ice cap, and increasing methane and carbon dioxide from melting permafrost and from drying soils and burning forests, and the non-linearity—or abrupt, wild instead of gradual, pattern—of climate change, we are probably already over or past that tipping point to dangerous, runaway, uncontrollable-by-human-action climate change already."
Beyond the tipping point of climate change

The painful truth about United Health Care.

those who would mar his legacy will not even be footnotes in history, just forgotten shadows of lesser men.

"To become truly great, one has to stand with the people, not above them"

Charles de Montesquieu

Ted Kennedy in death has come under assault from the Right. His body is not even cold and they are relentless in attacking a man who can no longer defend himself. It speaks volumes as to what they are. For most of my adult life I was not a fan of Ted Kennedy. I had, in my misbegotten youth, become a conservative. I believed the mantra, I liked being on top of the food chain, not financially but socially, culturally and racially. I thought I belonged to the elite America. I voted for every Republican that ran over the past forty years. One day while listening to Hannity it dawned on me that if every Democrat in America were to quit politics, send Hannity a hundred dollars and and buy his book they still couldn't do anything right or good. They were evil, had no virtue and did everything to harm Hannity's America.

The realization was profound. I saw a president that was destroying the American economy, lied to get us into a war, condoned torture and allowed billions of dollars to be siphoned off by Halliburton. The Bush administration was ignoring climate change, ignoring threats to the environment, was a failure in New Orleans after Katrina. The Bush Administration was great for the big corporate fat cats who were getting fatter while American men and women died in the streets of Iraq. The conservative media loved him, he could do no wrong. Hannity, Limbaugh, O'reilly, and their ilk swooned over every word action and deed of the Bush Administration, and America was hurting.

Ted Kennedy fought for the American people, not just for the rich, but all Americans, all races, all religions, all nationalities. He fought against the credit card companies when they supported changes in the law on bankruptcy. He fought for the common man. He fought against the banks, the health insurance companies, he support the rights of women. For a list of all his votes see;

Now he is dead and he deserves better from those who opposed him. He would not do to them what they do to him, he was more noble. He was fallible, but let god be his judge.

His greatness will live on and those who would mar his legacy will not even be footnotes in history, just forgotten shadows of lesser men.

They reshape it, they frame it to represent their point of view.

“The media's the most powerful entity on earth. They have the power to make the innocent guilty and to make the guilty innocent, and that's power. Because they control the minds of the masses.”

Malcolm X

In my last post I wrote of hypocrisy and the media specifically Fox White Man News. I have since taken a few days break from watching and listening to media news of all stripes. The right the left all have their own personal axe to grind. In truth they are not really reporting the news, they try to influence and make the news. They reshape it, they frame it to represent their point of view.

Anyone brought up in the UK in the fifties and sixties will recall that news people on the television, telly, were called news readers and probably still are. For the most part they reported the news and left it for the public to decide for themselves the merits of the issues. Of course there was always the newspapers both right, left and center, but one had a sense that the news readers were neutral although I doubt that is still the case, the UK seems to have become a modified version of the United States. News wasn't hyped and sensationalized, an American invention, it was reported factually and for the most part honestly and accurately something sourly missing from American media.
The sad thing is that American media has an influence far out weighing their real importance. The old expression "kill all the lawyers" may now aptly be applied to all broadcast media. Of course I don't actually mean kill anybody, it is a figure of speech. Less some unbalanced individual take the phrase seriously. The sad thing is that news media play to their base, i.e. Fox to the Republican Christian Conservative, MSNBC to the progressive left, and CNN trying to saddle the fence and address the middle, and not very well either. The old time network news has lost it's impact and it is a shame because they were for the most part honest brokers of news. With the erosion of newspapers, the reduction in print reporters and the reliance on news pools the print news has lost much of their power and effectiveness. The reliance on television news media has grown. It would be refreshing to once see news reported accurately with out an opinion from some media pundit who's opinion is no better than anyone else, except that he has the wooly pulpit of television.
One notable exception to the rule is PBS' Bill Moyer's Journal and Jim Lehrer's News Hour. These journalists always are always a breath of fresh air. There is no pandering to a base, no slogans, lies and half truths. They are what the news used to be, honest, probing and with no agenda other than truth. They may be the last vestige of honesty in broadcasting. The right hates them, the left hates them, that alone should make them worth listening to. It may be one of the few places left that seeks the truth and examines the issues fairly. This not your Fox White Man News, nor your CNN.

Health Care. The Republican Christian Conservatives continue to attack the Democratic health care proposals and for most of the protesters it is a mindless exercise of repeating mindless, mind numbing phrases and slogans. The conservative media play to their fears, twisting the facts, telling outright lies and deceiving the faithful. The Christian Conservative base is used to taking things on faith and they believe everything they are told by the conservative media. They don't question, fact check, and in so doing they are duped and used by the corporate Health Insurance giants and ultimately act against their own self interest. They don't function in their real world.
Only when they are denied by their health care insurance company for what they expected and paid for, or are unemployed and are told that to cover them it will cost between $1300 and $3000 a month for health insurance with a $1000 deductible will the lie be brought home to them. A government option may not sound like a bad idea.

Corporate Health Care denies care but don't let us have a government plan that would help people, gosh that might be government control.
"Coburn tells weeping victim of broken health care system that government isn’t the solution.
Yesterday CNN’s Rick Sanchez aired a segment from a health care town hall where a weeping constituent explained to Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK) that her husband’s health insurer refuses to cover his treatment for a traumatic brain injury. As the woman continued to cry, Coburn told her that his office would try to assist her individually. But, he added, “the idea that the government is the solution to our problems is an inaccurate, a very inaccurate statement.” Watch it:"

McCain booed for stating that Obama respected the constitution. The racists were out in full force in Arizona and the hate that the GOP started is rolling along like a run away train. Obama the constitutional scholar hates the constitution, from morons, who have no clue what the constitution says or what protections it gives them. At the heart of it all it is racism, a black man is president and that they hate.

Environmental disappointments under Obama
"Logging in the Tongass National Forest
Since taking power this January, the Obama administration has made very few decisions that are completely illogical—one might even say simply stupid—but a recent decision by the new Secretary of Agriculture, Tom Vilsack, to allow the clear-cutting of 381 acres of primary rainforest in Alaska falls under this heading.
It’s as though Vilsack has not come up to date both on Obama's pledge for green jobs—which clear-cutting isn’t—and on the direct link between deforestation and climate change. Everything about this decision goes directly against Obama’s speeches and pledges to date. " Jeremy Hance
