The mainstream Democrats and Republicans for the most part are moderates

"Conservative faith in this country has gotten to a point where it wants to legalized torture but it doesn't want health care for everybody."
-Frank Schaeffer, founder of the evangelical movement in America

Scozzafava the Republican candidate that withdrew from the congressional race in upstate New York due to pressure from the Conservatives led by Sarah Palin and Glen Beck, the new conservative Republican party leaders who ran their own Conservative candidate for the seat and lost; warns of the coming split in the republican party.
"There is a lot of us who consider ourselves Republicans, of the Party of Lincoln," she said, her face now flush. "If they don't want us with them, we're going to work against them."
The Conservatives are now turning their sights on Florida and the governors race there, challenging moderate Republican Gov. Charlie Crist. The is a split down the center of the Republican party. It is an ideological split with the radical evangelical Conservatives and their party of Jesus and the moderate Republicans with a rational moderate approach. In congress Republicans seeing the tea-baggers and vocal evangelical Conservatives and have come to the conclusion that this is the group to woe. The not too bright court them and exploit them such as wacko Michelle Bachmann, and will ultimately pay the price for it by being turned out of office by the electorate. Except for a few communities these people are not the majority and the majority of Republicans and Democrats are moderate. As with upstate New York they will be in for a surprise.
The Conservatives are pointing to the governors of New Jersey and Virginia as examples of the change that is coming with the loss of two Democratic governors. What they don't see is that these governors race were over local and parochial issues unique to the particular style and policy of state issues. In addition the Democrats did not come out and vote in large numbers as they had during the presidential race.
The mainstream Democrats and Republicans for the most part are moderates and the politicians in congress need to understand that if they follow the radical agenda the people will fire their asses and replace them with people that reflect their moderate commonsense decent values. There is a "silent majority" out there in the hinterlands of America. It is decent law abiding majority of Americans who want to get on with their lives with as little interference from government as possible. They want the government to insure decent schools, affordable health care, and the ability to provide for their families. They don't want the big corporations and banks exploiting them and feeding at the public troth and giving them the bill. They don't want a radical right agenda telling them what they can and can't do according to their version of the bible. Most Americans definitely don't want intellectually challenged Sarah Palin and a television hack, Glen Beck running their country. They want the government to get back to doing what they should, govern.

1. A party by any other name would whither and die....

And speaking of names, folks: why don't they just rename themselves the "Tea Party" and be done with it. This is certainly not the Republican Party of Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt.

Is it the goal of these clowns that they destroy the GOP in order that it may be rebuilt in their hideous image? If that is the case they're in for more-than-a-few surprises. That silly party is already "in their image". Are they serious when they imply that they wish to move it even further to the right? How "far right" can one move before one falls off of the face of the earth? Are they serious?

Watching the utter implosion of the Grand Old Party in the last year has been the gift that just keeps giving and giving. Someone pinch me!
