Congress can best be described as a zoo or maybe a three ring circus. First we have Republicans and Democrats which is bad enough but that's just where it begins. Each party has members that range from liberal to conservative with the moderates holding the middle. Many are influenced by money from a variety of corporate lobbyists donating to the campaigns of the members it can influence, some lobbyists donating millions over the period of a few years.
The current debate is continuing over health care and added to the mix is the issue of abortion. Abortion is something the Christian religious groups in America see as a pivotal issue. The last thing most members of congress can't be accused of is having courage, they collapse, compromise their principals, if they ever had them, to every pressure group, corporate lobbyist or radical news media pundit with a microphone. The current anti abortion amendment added to the health care bill has progressive senate Democrats stating it is a bill they could not sign. Traitor to the Democrats cause Joe Liberman says he won't vote for a bill with the public option, another point of contention on the Right and with the health insurance industry. Republicans oppose anything that the Democrats support no matter what it is, "if they are for it we are against it".
