Abortion and Gays are the exposed nerves of the GOP and the evangelical radically indoctrinated Right

The radical right is so homophobic that they're blaming global warming on the AIDS quilt.
-Dennis Miller

Abortion and Gays are the exposed nerves of the GOP and the evangelical radically indoctrinated Right. The far, far, far, way far Right, the evangelical and fundamentalist christians are joined by the Catholics to force their religious views on the nation. That a person may be opposed to abortion is understandable and is a moral decision. I personally am opposed to abortion unless the life of the mother is at stake. But to dictate my views on women is to deny women the right to choose and make decisions about their own bodies. The Right, and it is the religious Right supported by the Republican hypocrites who spout the Rights position as their own, maintains that abortion is immoral and taking a life. Yet they support torture, support war and would do little to help the poor and troubled people who have damaged children. As Michael Jay Tucker said, "If the anti-abortion movement took a tenth of the energy they put into noisy theatrics and devoted it to improving the lives of children who have been born into lives of poverty, violence, and neglect, they could make a world shine.' But these troubled souls on the Right have been led down the garden path by these evangelical and far right leaders and have become the lunatic fringe. It has led to the murder of doctors and the blowing up of clinics and injury and death to innocent people, but to their twisted minds those deaths were justified. Abortion is a decision that should be left up to a woman and her conscience. It cannot be an easy decision and we need to get out of other people's lives. Women have a right to choose.
The other thing that drives the Right nuts is gays, especially gay marriage. The Right have stated a number of times that they would deny gays the right to work in schools, for fear of their impact on children. That is a blatantly stupid idea.
These paranoid jerks on the Right don't get it. The stories of abuse that have occurred in schools come from heterosexual teachers not from the gay community. If we look at statistics maybe we should not allow any heterosexual teachers work in schools. The argument from the Right is stupid and sexually biased. As for marriage between gays, that is where the Right burst into flames. They scream about the bible and quote it verbatim. Ok, so they, members of the Right, don't have to marry someone of the same sex if they don't want to, but stay out of other peoples business. It is mean spirited and it just might be that some of the more outspoken leaders of the right are suppressing their own latent homosexual urges. To paraphrase Shakespeare; "Thou doth protest too much". Ted Haggard comes to mind as one of the stalwarts of the GOP who fell from grace due to his homosexual activities, and also that anti gay rights champion in the senate, Republican Conservative Senator Larry Craig of Idaho arrested for trying to pickup an undercover cop in a men's bathroom at an airport, and there are countless others. Those that yell the loudest need a closer look, start checking closets.
Gays can marry in Sweden, Norway, Netherlands, Belgium and Spain, these countries have an enlightened approach, something America has a problem dealing with due to very vocal Right that wants to impose it's moral and religious values on us all. Gay marriage will not destroy our Democracy, the big banks and corporations are already doing a good job of that, it will not ruin the morals of the nation, MTV and reality TV have been working on that. It won't destroy the minds of children, they have 'gangsta rap' for that. Let's us get on with our own lives and let the gays in America share all the same protections and privileges everyone else in entitled too including the legal protection marriage affords.
