Mullin's World View

Before I go on, I must confess to the world that I am a Liverpool (English Soccer team for the Americans) supporter. Two Texans just bought the team and prospects look great. Go Reds.

I have to think it is the easy way that we can create a on line journal (blog) that creates the urge to spout all sorts of nonsense with a little bit of sense thrown in. There are those unique individuals who have deep insight on a single topic, me on the other hand am constantly seeking to know all that I can about everything. I do get myopic at times. When I have to learn something that interests me deeply like the Linux operating system, Ubuntu, which I recently switched to, rather than to continue to support Microsoft and Bill. It has made computing fun again.
But as of late I have also been concerned with any number of topics I.E; climate change, the war in Iraq, terrorism at home and abroad and the intellectual inadequacy of our president. It's a wonder I get any sleep at night. Of course they are all weighty areas of concern but it is the nature of my profession that makes me worry. I am a teacher in a middle school and I wonder what type of world are we leaving to our children. If we fail to act the world will judge us harshly.

This past congressional election I voted for the Democratic slate, a first for me. As a life long Republican I have voted for Nixon, Regan (my all time favorite) Ford, Bush senior twice and Bush Junior twice. I am looking forward the the 08 election and again voting for the Democratic candidate. I honestly feel that G.W. Bush is the worst president this country has ever had. I just hope it is not too late. Breaking news from the Supreme Court, it only takes 5 votes to change the world.

Highly Recommended; Al Gore's Movie An Inconvenient Truth

I am a great fan of the Ubuntu operating system and have been using Ubuntu 6.10, Edgy Eft for a few months. I have had a lot of fun and have learned a lot in the process. I recommend it to all those of you who are tired of Microsoft's intrusion into your computer lives. Microsoft's Vista will be the most intrusive of the lot. Ubuntu is basically free and can be downloaded from www.ubuntu.com why not give it a shot and get the fun back in computing.

I will be posting pod casts shortly on topics of interest, also I will list some interesting sites for pod cast downloads.
